Students in Mrs. Celuck’s Advanced Biology class explored the Immune
System through an interactive multimedia videoconference presentation known as
the “Inner World Discovery”.
Designed
by St. Joseph's Medical Center emergency room doctor Phillip Silverstein, the
“Inner World Discovery” program is a multimedia journey through the human body.
With Dr. Silverstein as their guide, students participating in this session experienced the wonder, intricacies and elegance of the human
body’s immune system. This interactive videoconference presentation with Dr.
Silverstein made the complexities of understanding the immune system
accessible to students, and made real the devastating effects of HIV. The
program, a curricular supplement, was scaled for high school and community
college health and science classes.
Through ACT 183 Funding , the NEPA WAN project, school board and
administrative support,
Riverside
teachers are able to welcome Doctors, Artists and Authors from around the
world into their classrooms to deliver first hand information from their
respective fields. Video conferencing equipment and Internet2 connectivity
provide the portal for opening the door to future learning environments and
engages students and teachers in authentic learning environments. This
technology also allows students and faculty to collaborate with other schools
around the USA.
