The Illusion Maker:
Environmental Magic Show Students in
Kindergarten through 6th grade attended The
Illusion Maker's "Do You Believe in Magic" environmental
magic show on Wednesday, January 20th. It featured the
magic of recycling, reusing, reducing, litter abatement,
conservation, waste management and storm
water protection. The students left the show with many new
ideas on how they can have a positive influence on the
environment around them. The Illusion Maker delivered a
fast-paced, magical extravaganza complete with a 25ft.
theatrical set, digital stereo sound, plus plenty of
audience participation, as they themselves are fooled by
the master of mysteries! All this had us asking.."Do You
Believe in Magic?"

Melissa
Lingle, K-6 music teacher for the Riverside School
District, first became aware of the grant program when
Walmart co-manager Cindy Bellucci, the mother of one of
her sixth grade choral students, recommended she apply.
Upon applying for the grant, Mrs. Lingle took time to
emphasize the contribution the school’s choral music
program makes to the local community, both through
educating students in music, and through performance
opportunities that benefit both the students and the
people of Taylor and Moosic, PA. “Additional funding will
provide the students at Riverside the opportunity to have
even more rewarding musical experiences without the burden
of additional expense for families.” After reviewing the
application, Walmart decided to grant the choral music
program of the Riverside School District East Elementary
School $3000. Pictured are:

teacher Mrs. Melissa Lingle, Wal-Mart co-manager Mrs.

On Friday, November 20, 2009, the fourth grade of
Riverside Elementary East was visited by WNEP Newswatch 16
chief meteorologist Tom Clark. To conclude their science
unit on weather, students in Miss Wzorek’s and Mrs.
Susko’s classes gathered to hear a presentation by Mr.
Clark. Students learned about cloud formations, severe
weather, and how the meteorologists at WNEP deliver their
weather forecasts. Mr. Clark answered questions about
weather and concluded his presentation by giving students
weather maps and autographs. The fourth grade was thankful
for the opportunity to meet and learn from meteorologist
Tom Clark.

EAST WREE NEWSTEAM
PROVIDES LIVE SPECIAL GUEST
INTERVIEWS!
Our 6th grade WREE news team is up and running! In an
effort to mesh our elementary school with the Jr Sr High
School, our team has conducted interviews with our own
high school students. Junior football player Nick Rossi
and Miss Viking Kerri O’Hop visited East on two separate
Friday’s in September and October. Our cast members
conducted live interviews of both individuals. Also, our
varsity football coach, Coach Armstrong, was interviewed
on Friday, October, 9th by our newscast members and
provided valuable information on how athletics played an
important part in his life. The team plans on continuing
the interviews each Friday with a special guest from RHS.
Thank you to these individuals for making this exciting
event possible. A special thanks to Mr. Moceyunas as well
in working with our school!

The winner of the “Lucky Bag” giveaway for October was
second grader, Mickayla Jones. This month’s prize was a
soccer ball.
Riverside East first grade students traveled to McDade
Park
on September 22, 2009 to be one of the first groups of
students from our area to try out the new recreational
facilities (Boundless Playground). Our students were
thrilled to be invited by the Commissioner’s office! While
there our students played on the newly constructed
equipment. Besides playing on gigantic playground, our
students enjoyed a magician, popcorn and dancing with EJ
the DJ. We are thankful to have had this opportunity.
Below are some of our students enjoying their day.

A brief summary of the "Lucky Bag" giveaway:
Once a month a breakfast bag is tagged as the "Lucky
Bag". The child that gets that bag will win a prize.
This month was a tennis racket and balls. Some of the
gifts that will be raffled are geared towards health and
wellness, and getting outside and having fun (tennis,
soccer, etc.) Some gifts may be gift cards. The idea is
to promote breakfast and to have more students eating. As
we all know, it is the most important meal of the day. A
goal is to have 50% of the student population eating
breakfast.
Elementary East did have a winner and the prize was given.
