Title IX
What is Title IX?
Title IX is a federal law that prohibits sex based discrimination, including sexual harassment. This federal law defines sexual harassment as any instance of quid pro quo harassment by a school’s employee; any unwelcome conduct that a reasonable person would find so severe, pervasive, and objectively offensive that it denies a person equal educational access; any instance of sexual assault (as defined in the Clery Act), dating violence, domestic violence, or stalking as defined in the Violence Against Women Act (VA WA).
Examples of potential Title IX violations:
1) Harassment or discrimination based on sex or gender identity or expression
2) Harassment or discrimination based on Pregnant or Parenting status
3) Bullying or harassment in the form of:-Comments, threats, gestures, or rumors of a sexual nature
-Sharing/showing images/videos of a sexual nature
-Non-consensual sex acts

How to Report:
Students:
If a student has been subject to conduct by any student, employee or third party that constitutes a violation of the District’s anti-harassment or nondiscrimination policy(s), the student or their parent/guardian, is encouraged to immediately report the incident in any of the following ways:
- Report the incident to your building principal and/or guidance counselor
- Email our Director of Compliance (Mr. Scott Pentasuglio) and explain in detail what you are reporting at spent@riversidesd.com
- Submit a detailed report via Safe2Say
Employees:
An employee or third party who believes they have been subject to conduct by any employee or third party that constitutes a violation of the District’s anti-harassment or nondiscrimination policy(s) is encouraged to immediately report the incident in any of the following ways:
- Report the incident directly to our superintendent/Title IX Coordinator (Mr. Paul Brennan) at 570-983-7135
- Email our Director of Compliance (Mr. Scott Pentasuglio) and explain in detail what you are reporting at spent@riversidesd.com
Sports Equity Issues
Concerns or inquiries regarding sports equity should be directed to our athletic director (Mr. Dan Digwood) via email at ddigwood@riversidesd.com
Mandatory Reporting:
Any employee who witnesses, suspects or is notified that a student has been subject to conduct that constitutes a Title IX violation shall immediately report the incident.
Policy Statement
Title IX Policy Statement the Riverside School District has created policies which prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex in both education and employment. Board Policy and Administrative Practices and Procedures prohibits sex bias in such educational areas as treatment of students, instruction, counseling practices, financial assistance, awards, physical education, interscholastic and intramural athletics, and disciplinary procedures. Board Policy and Administrative Practices and Procedures prohibits sex bias in such employment areas as applications, recruitment, hiring, upgrading and promotion, rates of pay, fringe benefits, job assignment and classification, leaves of absence, training and all other terms, conditions or privileges of employment.

It is the coordinator's responsibility to make certain that all education programs and activities and all employment procedures are free from discrimination on the basis of these conditions stated in the Policy.

Please place “TITLE IX” in the subject heading of the email.
