    ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR WEDNESDAY MAY 22, 2019

     

    REMINDER ALL STUDENTS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL WILL BE DISMISSED AT 11:06 ON FRIDAY MAY 24TH DUE TO TEACHER IN SERVICE DAY.

     

    Once again, NHS will host the Paint the Parking Lot Fundraiser.  Any returning junior or senior will have the opportunity to rent their parking space for the 2019-2020 school year.  A map of parking spaces will be available in room 309 the week of May 28th and will be selected on a first come, first served basis.  Seniors can purchase their parking spaces, 10th period Tuesday, May 28th -Thursday, May 30th.  Juniors will have the opportunity to purchase their parking spaces on Monday June 3rd-Wednesday, June 5th.  The cost is $25; cash only.  Payments can be dropped off in room 309 to Mrs McManus.  Parking space design and payment must be paid for and approved by administration no later than June 13th.  

     

    Riverside High School is sponsoring a field trip to the Northeastern Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center in the Hanover Industrial Park on Thursday, May 30th for interested sophomore students.  Students will tour this facility and learn about job opportunities in business, mechanical and industrial engineering, and manufacturing.  Interested students should see Mrs. Getts for a permission slip.  

     

    All art club members are required to attend the Art Club meeting on Thursday May 23rd.  Plans for the end of year party will be finalized.  All members that ordered Art Club 1/4 Zips, your zip is here; come and get it at the meeting.

     

    Current 10th and 11th Grade students looking for a summer opportunity to learn more about business and entrepreneurship are encouraged to apply for the Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week program.  Interested students should see Mrs. Getts for more information or visit their website at www.pfew.org .

     

    All spring sports uniforms should be handed into your coach ASAP. If you missed the collection date please place them in a plastic bag with your name on it and hand it into the main office.

    Marywood University is offering a Biotechnology 5 day camp this summer, July 8-12.  Students will perform labs during the camp to learn about DNA and protein technologies, including PCR, electrophoresis and protein isolation techniques.  Cost is $60.  Interested Juniors or Seniors for the 2019-2020 school year are asked to attend a meeting on Wednesday May 8th, during 10th period in room 317.  Dr. Lisa Antoniacci will be here to present information on the camp and answer any questions you may have.

    Mansfield University is hosting Master & Grasshopper 2019 in the Loomis Gallery in Allen Hall on their campus.  Master and Grasshopper is an art exhibition of regional high school art teachers and their students.  The exhibition opened on March 25thand will close on April 17th.

    Alexis Sophabmixay and Mr. Yanashot both have work in this exhibition.  Alexis has a ceramic sculpture and Mr. Yanashot has a marble sculpture in this show. 

    All students in the show were judged for Best of Show, First, Second, Third and Honorable Mentions.

    Alexis has won Second Place for her piece “Dream Demon”.  A reception and awards ceremony will be held on Friday April 5, 2019 from 6-8 PM at The Loomis Gallery in Allen Hall on the Mansfield Campus in Mansfield, Pennsylvania.

    Students registered to take the SATs this Saturday, March 8th are reminded to bring the following items with them to their test center:  a copy of your admission ticket, an acceptable photo ID, two no. 2 pencils, and an approved calculator.  If you wish, you may also bring a drink and a snack for your breaks.  Electronic devices, including cell phones and digital watches, are prohibited during test administration, and must be turned off.  Students should report to their test center by 7:45 a.m.    

     

    This Friday 10th period, the book club invites any students in grades 7-12 to stop by to play a few matches of Lit Trivia. There will be prizes. Trivia will take place in Room 115, Mrs. Radle's room.

    On Monday November 5th, we will be starting our annual Food Drive.  The Food Drive will run until November 16th. As always, the Food Drive will be a competition for Dress Down Days for the week of Thanksgiving.  Teams will be as follows 7 and 8, 9 and 10, 11 and 12. The team that raises the most nonperishable food items will receive a dress down day for November 19, 20, and 21.  Second place will dress down on November 20 and 21, third place can dress down on November 21.  For a twist, in an attempt to raise more nonperishable food than we have ever raised, the winning team will have a COMFY DAY Dress down on Monday November 19th.  

     

    Riverside School District will honor our veterans and active duty military personnel with a free breakfast in our high school cafeteria on Monday, November 12 from 8 to 11 am. Students, please invite family and friends who have served or are serving our country so we can express our appreciation for them. All others can enjoy breakfast for only $5.

    FAFSA Completion Night will be held on Thursday, November 1st in the high school library at 5:30 p.m.  Mrs. Linda Pacewicz, a representative from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, will be available to assist high school seniors and their parents and guardians with the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA form.  Please see the school counseling webpage for a list of documents that you should bring with you to this program.

    The SATs will be administered this Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Riverside High School.  Students who are testing will need to bring their admission ticket, an acceptable photo ID, two number 2 pencils, and an approved calculator.  Students are also encouraged to bring a drink or snack for their break.  Electronic devices including cell phones and digital watches will be
    collected and must be powered off during the test administration.

     

    Riverside will be hosting Susquehanna for Varsity football on Friday 7pm. Ticket prices are 7.00 adults 4.00 students no passes accepted

     

    The Drama Club and Student Council will be holding our annual field trip on Wednesday, December 12th to New York City.  Cost is $134 and is open to grades 7-12.  A $50 deposit is due ASAP.  There are 30 seats available so first come, first serve! See Mrs. McDermott or Mrs. Chilek with any questions.

     

    NHS will meet on Thursday, November 1st, 10th period in the auditorium.

    The regular registration deadline for the November 3rd SATs at Riverside High School is this Friday, October 5th.  Seniors applying to schools that require the SATs  or students looking to improve their SAT scores should register by this date.  Please see Mrs. Getts with any questions.

    Juniors who plan to on attending a four-year college after graduation should register for the October 10th PSAT at Riverside High School.  The PSAT is a standardized test that helps students prepare for the SATs, which are required for admission consideration at many colleges.  Students may register during their lunch on Wednesday or Thursday.  The cost of the exam is $16 and students may pay with cash or by check.  Please see Mrs. Getts with any questions.

    This Friday, September 28th will be our first dress down of the year. September is Mental Wellness Month and the color is yellow.  If you want to dress down- you must wear yellow. A yellow shirt is the color. The shirt does not have to be all yellow but must have some yellow going thru it. If the shirt doesn’t contain any yellow- then don’t wear it.

     

    As a reminder: at no time are sweat pants, yoga pants, leggings to be worn at all. No ripped or torn jeans where skin is showing is allowed. No sleeveless shirts or tank tops are allowed at all. If you choose to dress down follow the dress down policy. If you are unsure of a piece of clothing, please see Mr. Moe or Mr. Walsh.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 26, 2018

     

    There will be a meeting for any Sophomore interested in participating in Hall Decorating on Thursday, September 27th in Room 215.  If you cannot attend, please see Mr. Trescavage or Johnny Gilchrist for details.

     

    "There will be a Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) organizational meeting on Monday, October 1, 2018, 10th period, Room# 206 (Computer Lab).  Please see Ms. Barucky if you have any questions."

     

     

    A list of candidates for membership into the National Honor Society is posted on the main office and guidance office windows.  Applications for membership are due no later than 3 pm on Friday, October 5th.  See Mrs. McManus in room 309 with any questions. 

     

    Juniors who plan to on attending a four-year college after graduation should register for the October 10th PSAT at Riverside High School.  The PSAT is a standardized test that helps students prepare for the SATs, which are required for admission consideration at many colleges.  Students may register during their lunch on Wednesday or Thursday.  The cost of the exam is $16 and students may pay with cash or by check.  Please see Mrs. Getts with any questions.

    The first senior mini-college fair will be held this Thursday, September 27th in the library during 3rd period.  Lackawanna College, Johnson College, Keystone College, and Empire Beauty school will have admissions representatives available to answer questions.  Interested seniors must receive permission from their 3rd period teachers to attend.

    This Friday, September 28th will be our first dress down of the year. September is Mental Wellness Month and the color is yellow.  If you want to dress down- you must wear yellow. A yellow shirt is the color. The shirt does not have to be all yellow but must have some yellow going thru it. If the shirt doesn’t contain any yellow- then don’t wear it.

     

    As a reminder: at no time are sweat pants, yoga pants, leggings to be worn at all. No ripped or torn jeans where skin is showing is allowed. No sleeveless shirts or tank tops are allowed at all. If you choose to dress down follow the dress down policy. If you are unsure of a piece of clothing, please see Mr. Moe or Mr. Walsh.

     

    This is our first dress down of the year- don’t make it the last.

     

     

    This year's Poetry Out Loud in school competition will be held Tuesday, October 30th in the auditorium during school.  Students can compete for the chance to represent Riverside at the Regional competition in December at WVIA.  Any student grades 9-12 is eligible to participate.  A meeting will be held Wednesday, October 3rd in Mrs. McDermott's room (241).  In the meantime, you can access information on www.poetryoutloud.org.  See Mrs. McDermott or your Language Arts teacher with any questions.
