Welcome back everyone, YOU FOUND ME!  I know that you'll all find something interesting to do on this page because this isn't like those other classes (that some of you COMPLAIN are hard!  Oooh I don't like _____!)

This is music. Something that you all listen to and enjoy!  We don't have textbooks for the giving of a lot of homework and fact memorization... Some of the activities and/or information will be coming at you when we return to class, so this should serve as a sort of "coming attraction" for the rest of the year. If you try some of these, several things could happen:

    1. It could help you in class when we return.

    2. You MIGHT have fun.

    3. You MIGHT learn something... (Oh God NO!)

PLEASE CONTACT ME AT rgeise@riversidesd.com with questions, comments, just saying hi! I look forward to hearing from you. I will be available M-F from 9-11 and 12:30-2:30. (Just like you, I gotta have a little time to eat). If you contact at any other time, I will try to reply ASAP.

************** This is a standing assignment until we return to school: ****************

    Sing.

Sing at least 10-15 minutes a day. Singing is a relaxing activity and is a great stress reducer. (We are currently experiencing very stressful times.) Sing something that you know and like.

Sing alone or in front of your family. BETTER YET, SING WITH YOUR FAMILY! This is a great way to show off!!

Starting today, I will offer a suggestion that may be found on www.youtube.com  Check back soon to get details about an in-class contest, and how you may win a prize!

This week's selections: Livin' On A Prayer (Bon Jovi)

                                      Lean On Me  (Bill Withers)

                                      Don't Stop Believin'  (Journey)

What are you singing? Let me know...

I'll post faves as I receive them (school appropriate)

Assignments for week of Monday 3/30: Besides singing, we will start simple. Log into www.incredibox.com   This sites helps you create an infinite number of beatbox samples. INCREDIble beatBOX, get it?  The site offers several versions allowing you to create layers of rhythms, voices, and effects and recording/saving them. If you duplicate the sample that they have, you can unlock additional material. This is a simple site to navigate. Should you encounter difficulties, email me and we will try to get you up and running...

ALSO: Feel free to refresh your memory using the music packet. Look at notes for treble and bass clefs. If you're feeling pretty good (most of you will), try working with Note and Rest Values on page 4.

Notes=sound    Rests=silence   Values are the same for each.

    Whole=4 (like a WHOLE dollar= 4 quarters. HALF dollar=2 quarters and QUARTER= 1 quarter.)

    Complete Sections A and B.

Want to learn about newer country/pop/rap performers? Check out www.esebco.com  login:keepreading    PW:sebco    ID:1    Click on "music"    There are 18 new digital books available featuring 5-6 performers in each category. You may read at your leasure and they'll never be overdue!!

Email me to let me know if you found something you like, I'd like to share it with others!!

As we move through the year, our army of musical scholars-in-the-making is laying waste to musical ignorance. We will be exposed to rap, rock, country, jazz, and blues musical stylings. We will learn to read in another language... the language of music! "Stay tuned" as we continue to plunder the rich, musical lands around us exploiting the beauty of diverse music offerings!
